Quarantine Quilts - Part III

It’s the final leg of the quarantine quilt journey—welcome to part 3 of the saga!

#10 - Blue Iris

I’ve made the most quilts for my dear mother. The grand total is two, haha, but everyone else I’ve made a quilt for has only gotten one! This was a gift to her and my dad for coming to help us after my baby was born. They swooped in for a weekend trip and left us happier [and probably fatter] than they found us. I mean, they left a giant tub of cookie dough in the fridge when they left, what did they expect?!

This same quilt I made for my mother in law (see part 2) was so fun to make, I decided to make it again with the other Kona jelly roll I had on hand—this time a blue one called Waterfall, also from Joanns. My mother loves all things animals and nature and so I found a fun flannel shark print for the back. My dad’s favorite color is orange so I bound it with the brightest orange I could find. My hope is that it’ll be the best quilt to cuddle visiting grandkids with in the future.

#11 - Mickey Mouse Dawson

This quilt was for my cousin’s baby. I asked his older brother what he wanted to name the baby before he was born, and one of the many replies was Mickey Mouse. Thus, the Mickey Mouse quilt was born! I loved this retro print (this link isn’t the same print, but it’s still retro! character prints rotate at Joann’s somewhat frequently) and paired it with a modern geometric flannel for the backing. Of course I bound it with my favorite black and white stripes!

#12 - Cactus Mountains

Back at it again with the whole cloth quilt! I won’t say much about this one, I’ll just bless you with these darling photos of baby toes and fingers!

(fabrics from Hobby Lobby, here is the link to this cute mountains fabric!)

#13 - Blue Gingham Quilts

I made two iterations of this quilt during the spring quarantine. One quilt for my sister in-law, and the other for another college roommate who was getting married. My roommate picked out this backing, and I LOVE IT! My only regret is that I didn’t keep it and get them some serving spoons instead hahaha.

In case you didn’t know, I’ve got a free gingham quilt pattern for anyone who signs up for my newsletter! Form is at the bottom of the page.

#14 - Brick Quilt

This was probably one of my favorite finishes of the quarantine quilt fest. I had these gray and mint rectangles already cut in my stash, and all I had to do was pick a layout that I liked and sew! I had finally gotten the hang of nesting my seams and am so proud of how well the corners all matched up.

This quilt was for another baby friend. My college freshman roommate had a baby girl less than a month after my baby was born, and so it was special for me to make this for her. She was such a kind roommate and has become a lifelong friend. We were matched randomly as roommates in the dorms that first year at college and now we’re friends for life! I may or may not have cried a few happy tears while making this quilt. I am so thankful for good friends (and OF COURSE their cute babies)!

Congratulations (and thank you!!) for making it to the end of the quarantine quilt saga. A special shoutout to all of you that read ALL THREE blog posts. If you missed those other two blog posts, links are below.
